In the 18th century, the United States was in the midst of its colonial period — a time that captured great diversity in fashion and clothing. Upper class American women enjoyed importing fine fabrics from around the world, crafting elegant gowns with eye-catching detail. Though comfort was necessary as women worked in their homes, even the most average of colonial dresses were layered, lined, and frilled.
You too can capture the luxurious and high quality fashion of the colonial era with this 18th century dress. Evoking the elegant style of famed colonial First Ladies including Abigail Adams, Martha Washington, and Dolly Madison, this gold colored dress is the perfect piece to don when you’re revisiting America’s colonial days. Prestigious women throughout U.S. history, including our flag creator Betsy Ross and the well-known Schuyler sisters donned this stylish colonial dress throughout the 1700s.
An exclusive piece in our Heritage Costumes collection of historical clothing, this colonial period dress is authentic to the fashion and style of 18th century America. Included in this deluxe costume set is a long satin dress in gold with contrasting creme satin panels, lace trim, and a zippered back. To finish off your colonial ladies’ look, also included are a lace-trimmed shawl and matching colonial mob cap. You’ll look the part of a colonial woman with this costume straight out of the 1700s.
Of course, every colonial lady in newly formed America needs a few accessories, too. No woman during the 18th century left home without her hoop skirt, gloves, and colonial shoe buckles. If you’d like to enhance your ladies’ colonial dress with our Heritage Costume accessories (which are not included with the purchase of this costume), you can pair this costume outfit with these options from our wide selection of added details to create your very own personalized costume.

During the Revolution, extremes of rich and plain attire in women's dress were most marked. In the large cities, especially in those occupied from time to time by the British, balls, dinners, dances, and parties kept fashion uppermost in the thoughts of the ladies.
