“I am the good shepherd; the good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. He who is a hireling, and not a shepherd, who is not the owner of the sheep, beholds the wolf coming, and leaves the sheep, and flees, and the wolf snatches them and scatters them. He flees because he is a hireling, and is not concerned about the sheep. I am the good shepherd, and I know my own, and my own know me, even as the Father knows me and I know the Father, and I lay down my life for the sheep.”
Protect your flock in this kids’ biblical costume, based on the shepherds of the Bible. The shepherd is meant to be a metaphor for Jesus. Just as a good shepherd lays down his life to protect his sheep, so does Jesus himself. Throughout time, shepherds have become an important figure and symbol of protection and kindness — and the shepherd always makes appearances in plays and performances around the holidays each winter.
This children’s Good Shepherd costume is authentic to the attire worn by the shepherds of biblical times. You’ll look just like a biblical shepherd when you don this historically accurate costume set.
Base Costume Option:
To capture the traditional shepherd’s attire accurately, our Base Costume Option includes a single caftan (also known as a robe) with full, long sleeves. Also, included are a Me'?l (an over robe), Sudra (a headscarf), and a rope waist belt.
Value Bundle Option:
Of course, a shepherd also needs to keep track of and protect his flock while staying comfortable — and that’s exactly what a shepherd staff and biblical beard & wig represent. Add these accessories (not included with the shepherd costume itself) to enhance your costume and to create your very own personalized look.
This high-quality shepherd costume can be used for historical school events, play, or simply a fun day of life as a shepherd. It’s also the perfect costume for children who want to dress the part in their next Christmas pageant or holiday play. Made with pride and care right here in Sunny Southern California.
In ancient times men did not wear trousers and women did not wear skirts. There were no shirts or blouses such as we wear today either. Both sexes usually wore flowing garments comparable to the modern woman's dress.
