A Heritage Costumes Exclusive.

When thinking of colonists and American revolutionaries such as Thomas Jefferson, George Washington, and even Thomas Paine, it’s impossible to imagine these men without an essential colonial accessory: the lacy or frilly white shirt. Men’s fashion during the 1700s was adopted from France, featuring elegant suits with fanciful and formal details. One of the most important details of a man’s attire was his neckwear, known as the cravat or jabot.

The colonial jabot or cravat was worn for both significant events and a day of labor. Traditionally, the jabot was worn as a length of white linen wrapped around the throat and loosely tied in the front. Men and even young boys adorned their jabot with lace, fringe, and decorative embellishments. The jabot wasn’t the only way men and boys adorned their attire. Male fashion also called for ruffled cuffs on the sleeves of a shirt — the perfect detail to peek out from under a man’s jacket or coat.

An exclusive piece in our American Heritage collection of historical costume accessories, this colonial Jabot, and cuff set in white is authentic to America’s colonial era. Meant to be a complement to our many 18th and 19th century pieces, you can mix and match the colonial jabot and matching cuffs to any piece of your choosing. This add-on accessory set includes a white lace jabot with a Velcro closure to wear around the neck and a pair of matching cuffs with elastic to slip around the wrists of any of our traditional colonial shirts for a historical and fashionable look true to the era. Both the jabot and cuffs are one size, fitting children as well as up to a size medium for adults. Pair this colonial jabot and cuff set with our other 18th-century costume pieces and accessories to create a personalized look straight from the 1700s.

This versatile and high-quality accessory set containing a colonial jabot and lace cuffs can be used for a period ball, historical reenactment, masquerade, or simply experiencing a day in the life of colonial America and the Revolutionary War. Made with pride and care right in the United States, this colonial jabot and lace cuffs set is built to last. All of our colonial clothing is appropriate for both the American Revolution and the colonial, or revolutionary, era. Made with pride and care right in the United States, this classic colonial jabot and cuff set for adults is built to last.
