A Heritage Costumes Exclusive.

Everyone who had a hand in founding the United States was a true revolutionary, creating a brand new nation with big ideas in the face of the powerful British Empire. While all of the Founding Fathers are recognized in American history as being part of the country’s “firsts”, none is as important in guiding our future as George Washington.

Born into a Virginia planter family in 1732, the man who would become the first president and leader of the Continental Army grew up involved in politics. So, it was no surprise that Washington became involved in both the American Revolution and the shaping of the political guidelines for the entire country. The Founding Fathers prepared for conflict with England, and when the second Continental Congress assembled in Philadelphia in May 1775, Washington, a Virginia delegate, was elected Commander in Chief of the Continental Army. On July 3, 1775, at Cambridge, Massachusetts, he took command of his ill-trained troops and embarked upon a war that was to last six grueling years. That challenging war changed the course of history.

Years later, George Washington took charge of not just the army, but the Thirteen Colonies and the young nation as a whole. On April 30, 1789, George Washington, standing on the balcony of Federal Hall on Wall Street in New York, took his oath of office as the first President of the United States. George Washington’s role in the creation of what is now a country of 50 states united together is greatly remembered today.

An exclusive piece in our Heritage Costumes collection of quality costume clothing, this children’s George Washington Revolutionary War uniform costume is authentic to the 1700s and the attire worn by the first president during his time as commander in chief of the Continental Army. You’ll look just like the famous military leader and the future president himself when you don this historically accurate costume set. Included is a Revolutionary War frock coat (also known as a colonial military jacket) with contrasting tan trim, a military vest front with an attached dickey, a lace jabot, and a pair of matching colonial breeches. When you take to the battlefield as one of the first Continental Army soldiers, you’re sure to look the part.

Of course, every colonial man fighting in the Revolutionary War like George Washington needs a few accessories with his uniform, too. The Founding Father made history wearing his daily attire with a tricorner hat, tall black boot spats, eyeglass, colonial wig, and military sword. If you’d like to enhance your attire with our Heritage Costume accessories (which are not included with the purchase of this costume), you can pair this costume outfit with these options from our wide selection of added details to create your very own personalized costume.
