Roman citizens wore sandals (soleae) - footwear without toe coverings indoors and shoes or boots (calcei or calceus), footwear with toe coverings with straps which covered the ankles, the calf, or up to the knee, outdoors. Sandals are believed to be the first rigid shoes crafted. A stiff sole was attached to the foot by leather cords, straps, or braided thongs. Sandals were generally the most worn type of footwear in warm climates such as the countries surrounding the Mediterranean - the Roman Empire.

When you think of Roman footwear, the sandal is often what comes to mind. This Roman Sandal is perfect for completing an iconic and traditional Roman look, whether you are aiming for casual citizen or battle-hardened gladiator. These sandals are crafted from synthetic leather and feature a flat sole with leather bindings that secure the foot. These leather straps wrap around the foot and ankle and are secured via tying below the knee.

The term classical antiquity is often used to refer to history in the Old World from the beginning of recorded Greek history in 776 BC (First Olympiad). This roughly coincides with the traditional date of the founding of Rome in 753 BC, the beginning of the history of ancient Rome, and the beginning of the Archaic period in Ancient Greece.

To remove stains:

Make a soap and warm water solution using a mild liquid detergent. Wipe the fabric gently with a non-abrasive sponge, until all the visible dirt is removed.

Remove tough stains by spraying with an alcohol-based all-purpose cleaner, like Formula 409. It will have a better chance of removing stains other than food and dirt.

Rinse the faux leather thoroughly using warm water and a clean, non-soapy sponge. Make sure to get in the crevices of faux leather so that soap suds or dirt do not get lodged in small cracks or folds.

Wipe the surface dry with a lint-free towel.
