A Heritage Costumes Exclusive.

Pirates are always famous for capturing bounty and raiding everything from ships to cities in ports around the world, but one pirate in particular built a storied reputation with his exploits in the 17th century: Captain Morgan. Better know to historians as Sir Henry Morgan, the storied captain was a landowner, a Welsh privateer, and the Lieutenant Governor of Jamaica in addition to his career on the high seas. Born in 1635, Captain Morgan’s beginnings are greatly unknown and unclear. What history does know is that Sir Henry Morgan spent his life as a pirate, gaining wealth by raiding settlements and ships that came near Jamaica. He used his wealth to buy sugar plantations on the island, becoming a prominent force in the West Indies.

Though he settled on Jamaica, Captain Morgan always returned to the sea and his ship. As the relationship between England and Spain grew tense in the mid-1600s, Morgan was given license by England to attack and seize Spanish ships. His raids grew even more lucrative as he captured wealth from huge Spanish squadrons. Thanks to his raids as a pirate, Captain Morgan was celebrated as a hero in England by both the people and King Charles II too. After his death in 1688, Captain Morgan’s life and exploits were romanticized around the world, making this sole pirate the inspiration for pirate-themed fiction.

An exclusive piece in our Heritage Costumes Famous People collection of quality costume clothing, this children’s Captain Morgan costume is authentic to the 1600s and the attire worn by the pirate himself. You’ll look just like the sailor who raided Spanish and Caribbean islands when you don this historically accurate costume set. To capture Captain Morgan’s sea-ready attire accurately, this costume includes a fully lined red pirate captain’s jacket, a pirate vest front with an attached lace jabot (or waistcoat), a pair of blue pirate pants, a blue cape, and a pair of lace cuffs.

Of course, every Captain Morgan pirate costume needs a few accessories, too. No experienced sailor or seaman during the 17th century set sail without his pirate tricorn hat, a full pirate wig, boot tops, a sword, a pirate belt, and of course a swashbuckler’s mustache and goatee. If you’d like to enhance your Captain Morgan attire with our Heritage Costume accessories (which are not included with the purchase of this costume), you can pair this costume outfit with these options from our wide selection of added details to create your very own personalized costume.

This high-quality Captain Morgan costume can be used for historical school events, play, or simply a fun day of pretending to be a pirate on the seas surrounding Europe in the 1600s. Made with pride and care right in the United States, this kids’ Captain Morgan famous people costume is built to last.
