Pantaloons weren’t just for men — in fact, the trend of wearing pantaloons, also known as bloomers, was popularized by American women in the 1800s. Bloomers were an early version of modern undergarments; however, they were loose and baggy underpants that gathered at the waist and below the knees. Meant to be worn under long, loose skirts and dresses, bloomers were a comfortable layer of clothing quickly adopted by women across America at the end of the 19th century.
In 1851, bloomers became the hottest style thanks women’s rights activist Amelia Jenks Bloomer. Bloomer unintentionally started a fashion movement by wearing loose knee-length pants in public, stating that women should be able to wear clothing that allowed free, easy movement. Though the public first laughed at Bloomer’s style, a “bloomer craze” kicked off in the summer of 1851 and women’s fashion was forever altered. Women and young girls everywhere began donning the comfortable bloomers, and they were a staple loved by suffragists and common ladies by the early 1900s.

Your costume includes a single pair of child-sized black cotton/polyester breeches. All of our historical costume kits are part of our build-your-own costume line. We sell most of our historical clothing as separates, allowing you to create your own individual costume.
Fabric Content:
Self: 65% Polyester 35% Cotton Broadcloth
Cleaning Instructions:
* Most items made from polyester/cotton blend treat as polyester.
* Most items made from polyester can be machine washed and dried.
* Use warm water and add a fabric softener to the final rinse cycle.
* Machine dry at low temperature setting and remove articles as soon as the tumbling cycle is complete.
* If ironing is needed, use a moderately warm iron.
* Most items made from polyester can be dry-cleaned.
As we cut all of our garments individually (Coats, Vests, Pants, Dresses, Etc.)
Fabric Shades may very & may not match exactly.
To remove stains:
Soak and the wash with soap and warm water using a mild liquid detergent.
Remove tough stains by spraying with a mild stain remover. It will have a better chance of removing stains other than food and dirt.
Tumble dry on low heat.
