A Heritage Costumes Exclusive.
A Victorian gentlemen always wore a suit. For most of the Victorian era that meant a dress coat over his pants shirt and vest. Victorian coats came in many styles such as a frock coat, cutaway coat, morning coat, tailcoat (Tuxedo with tails), and sack suit. His outer coat came in heavy top coat, box coat, great coat and ulster styles. Victorian men’s coats are the final piece to any costume of the 1840 to 1900s Victorian era.
The frock coat was single or double breasted, bottom hem above the knee, and distinguished by a squared shape at the bottom front. Its companion, the morning coat was single breasted and has a rounded, swallow tail shape. Both were referred to as "morning" dress, to distinguish them from evening dress. Both were worn with top hats. In the South and West however, top hats were often replaced by broad brimmed, low crowned hats for everyday frock suit wear.
An exclusive piece in our Heritage Costumes collection of historical clothing, this 1800’s children's Victorian period frock coat was worn by many distinguished Victorian men, such as Abraham Lincoln, Charles Dickens, and Alexander Graham Bell.
All of our exclusive lines of historical clothing are made with pride and care in the U.S.A.
