A Heritage Costumes Exclusive.
The first colonists had a tricky task ahead of them: establishing America all on their own, all while adhering to the laws of England and its king. The colonists established individual colonies, which later became the very first states, formed Puritan and Quaker societies, and balanced relations with their Native American neighbors. One Quaker leader, William Penn, took on these responsibilities and became a central figure of early America during the 1600s and early 1700s.
Born in England in 1644 into a wealthy family, William Penn found himself in favor with the King of England early in life. During the colonial era, King Charles II gave Penn a large piece of American land. Penn immediately headed to America, where he founded both the Pennsylvania colony and the city of Philadelphia and established a Quaker government. As a new leader in America, William Penn urged all colonists and colonies to come together and form a union. His government principles became an integral part of the Constitution years later, and some of the nation’s founding documents used Penn’s policies for Pennsylvania as the basis for American ideals.
An exclusive piece in our Heritage Costumes Famous People collection of quality costume clothing, this children’s William Penn costume is authentic to the 1600s and the attire won by the Quaker himself. You’ll look just like the famous colonist when you don this historically accurate costume set. To capture Penn’s daily attire accurately, this costume includes a black pilgrim coat with attached pilgrim collar & cuffs, black colonial pilgrim breeches (or knickers), pilgrim shoe buckles with a felt pilgrim hat.
Of course, every Pilgrim and founding statesman needs a few accessories, too. No colonial man was considered well dressed without his white colonial wig, and a pair of colonial socks.
