Though the composers of traditional classical music are often lumped together as the creators of some of the world’s most treasured tunes, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart is certainly unlike any of his contemporaries. In fact, Mozart isn’t just responsible for composing incredible music of his own creation. This musical luminary also trained other famed composers like Ludwig Van Beethoven. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart stood apart from other composers thanks to his unbelievable talent, and still today he is regarded as a one of a kind individual, one of the most profoundly influential musicians to ever live.
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was born in January 1756 in Salzburg. From a very young age, Mozart showed prodigious ability. By age five, he was competent on the keyboard and the violin — and the young boy began crafting his first compositions and performing for European royalty before turning six. At just eight years old, Mozart wrote his first symphony. By the time he was 17, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was on staff as a musician at the Salzburg court. Mozart began growing restless, though, and he decided to seek a new challenge and position. He landed in Vienna, where he began to achieve fame. Unfortunately, no great fortune came with that newfound fame and recognition.
It wasn’t until Mozart’s final years in Vienna that his greatest compositions came to life. In the years leading up to the great composer’s death, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart shaped his best-known symphonies, concertos, operas, and pieces of the Requiem. By the time of his death, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart had composed more than 600 works. Much of his work was considered to be the pinnacle of music in many forms. In the centuries since, Mozart has become the most enduringly popular classical composer and an influential force in Western music.
